Iran resolved to support Iraq’s security: Official
A senior Iranian official has hailed the ongoing democratic transition in Iraq and reaffirmed Iran’s support for the establishment of sustainable security in the Arab country.
“The people and government of the Islamic Republic of Iran will utilize every potential to support the establishment of security, the fight against terrorism, and progress in Iraq,” said Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani on Friday.
He expressed satisfaction over the democratic convergence among the Iraqi political factions, noting that undoubtedly like the past, the prudent leaders of Iraq will promptly establish an effective government by managing the potentials of Iraq and restoring security to a united and sovereign Iraq by repelling the security threats caused by the enemy plots.
Shamkhani hailed the existing agreement among the Iraqi political leaders as a clear manifestation of “political maturity” in the country and the main achievement of the Iraqi nation in their fight against totalitarianism, foreign hegemony and terrorism.
The Iraqi leaders proved that despite their differences, their top priority is Iraq’s national interests and security, the Iranian official pointed out.
On Thursday, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki stepped down to make way for Prime Minister-designate Haider al-Abadi, voicing support for his successor.
Earlier in the month, Iraq’s new President Fouad Massoum appointed the deputy parliament speaker Abadi to form a new government.
Iraq has been fighting ISIL Takfiri terrorists since they took control of the city of Mosul on June 10. The ISIL terrorists have been committing heinous crimes in the captured areas, including the mass execution of civilians and Iraqi security forces.
