No Iranian forces in Iraq’s Kurdistan: source
An informed source at Iran’s Foreign Ministry has dismissed a report by an Arab newspaper that Iranian special forces have entered Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has no plans to dispatch military combat troops to Iraq,” the source said on Friday.
The Arab-language Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper has cited an unidentified security official in Iraq’s Kirkuk province as saying that 200 Iranian special forces have entered the province under the auspices of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan headed by Jalal Talabani.
Iran has repeatedly announced that it will not send armed forces to fight against Takfiri terrorists in Iraq, but will help Baghdad if it demands humanitarian aid and military equipment.
