Iran Condemns Recent Bombing in Bahrain
(FNA)- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham strongly condemned the recent violence in Bahrain, specially a recent bombing which resulted in the death of several policemen in the tiny Persian Gulf island.
“Iran denounces the recent acts of violence in Bahrain, including a bombing that killed three policemen,” Afkham said on Tuesday.
She underlined that the people and government of Bahrain should resolve their differences through genuine national dialog.
Afkham also urged Al-Khalifa regime to respect the democratic aspirations of the Bahraini people.
On Monday, three policemen were killed after a bomb exploded in Deyya village near the capital of Manama.
The explosion happened as Bahraini troops attacked the mourners of an anti-regime activist, who died in prison a few days ago.
The regime forces fired teargas to disperse thousands of people who had gathered to mourn the death of 22-year-old Jafar al-Dirazi in the village.
Since anti-government protests erupted in Bahrain in early 2011, many Bahraini protesters have been tried and imprisoned. Reports say at least 3,000 people, including women and children, are currently in jail.
About 500 political prisoners at the Houdh al-Jaf detention center have reportedly gone on a hunger strike ahead of a planned visit by a delegation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
On March 14, 2011, soldiers from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates invaded the country to assist the Bahraini government in its violent crackdown on the protesters calling for reforms and a constitutional monarchy.
According to local sources, scores of people have been killed and injured since.
