Official Warns of Enemies’ Attempts to Darken Tehran-Cairo Ties
(FNA)- Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian warned of enemies’ plots to create a rift between the Iranian and Egyptian nations.
“The enemies of the Iranian and Egyptian nations are harmed by the closeness of the two countries and therefore make attempts to poison the atmosphere of the relations between Iran and Egypt,” Amir Abdollahian said in a meeting with a delegation of Egyptian political and media figures in Tehran on Sunday.
He referred to the age-old relations between Tehran and Cairo, and said the two countries enjoy common views on different regional developments, including the Palestinian issue.
“Iran will continue its support for Palestine and the pivot of resistance in the region and we believe that safeguarding the achievements gained through opposition to international Zionism in the region is one of the goals of the growing tides of Islamic Awakening in the region,” Amir Abdollahian said.
Also on Saturday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in a meeting with the same Egyptian elites cautioned that the colonial powers intend to continue their domination over other nations in new ways.
Larijani pointed to the colonialist powers' new attempts to stir religious and sectarian strife among Muslim nations, and said, “The colonial powers are trying to enter the region in new clothes in a bid to continue their dominance over the Muslim nations.”
He reiterated that there are no differences among different Muslim sects in principle, and said, “Fueling religious differences in the Muslim world is a colonial plot to reinvigorate the security of the Zionist regime.”
Also speaking during the meeting, Salaheddin Al-Dasouqi, an Egyptian political leader, confirmed Larijani's remarks, and said Zionism and US colonialism are trying to disintegrate the region through widening religious differences.
