Iran needs guarantees that int’l community is not seeking change of gov’t
The six nations involved in talks with Iran on its nuclear program "must state clearly to Iran that they are not pursuing the goal of changing the regime" in Iran but seek answers to questions that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has about the program, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday, reports VoR's correspondent.
"In regards to Iran, we have been saying from the very start that all the negotiators must state clearly to Iran that they are not pursuing the goal of changing the regime but seek clarity on all the questions that the IAEA has," Lavrov told a news conference after talks with Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders.
"After all these problems have been clarified, all the sanctions and other obstacles to Iran's participation in international affairs will be removed," Lavrov said. "One gets the impression that : the importance of making use of the current situation to act in exactly this way : has come home to the negotiators."
The six countries involved in the nuclear issue talks with Iran, which are commonly referred to as the P5+1, are the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China plus Germany.
