Iran SNSC undersecretary to visit China for nuclear talks
Baqeri left Tehran for China’s capital, Beijing on Tuesday upon an invitation by Chinese Foreign Ministry, IRNA reported.
The Iranian official is scheduled to hold talks with senior Chinese officials about bilateral, regional and international issues as well as Iran’s nuclear energy program.
On November 15, Iran announced its readiness to resume talks with the P5+1 group of world powers (Britain, China, France, Russia, and the US plus Germany), urging the group to return to the negotiation table.
Iran and the P5+1 have held several rounds of multifaceted talks mainly over the Iranian nuclear energy program.
The United States, Israel and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.
Iran says its nuclear activities are entirely peaceful, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it is entitled to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
