(FNA)- A former Egyptian lawmaker said that reinstating the Egyptian Prosecutor General in his post is itself the reason that he is the key element in corruption of Egypt, adding that he is the stumbling block to bringing the leaders of the former regime to justice.

"Prosecutor General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud's incompliance with President Mohammad Mursi's decree for his ouster indicates that he is one of the key influential actors in Egypt's corruption cases, and that he keeps the trace of these cases with himself," Ali Esmail, a former member of the Egyptian parliament from the Muslim Brotherhood Party, told FNA in Cairo on Sunday.

He reminded that Mahmoud is one of the senior officials of the former regime.

"I am one of the supporters of the ouster of the prosecutor general, because this person is the key to corruption cases in Egypt and he has relevant clues and traces in his office," Esmail added..

President Mursi ordered Mahmoud to step down on Thursday in an apparent bid to appease public anger over the acquittal of former regime officials on Wednesday who were accused of orchestrating violence against protesters in 2011.

Yet, Mahmoud defied the presidential decree, underlining that he would stay in office.
