At least four people have been killed in a car bomb attack in the northeastern Syrian city of Qamishili as clashes between government troops and insurgents continue.

According to Syria’s state television, a bomber blew up a car laden with explosives in the city’s western district on Sunday.

Many others are also reported to be injured in the explosion. It was the first violent attack in Qamishli, which has a Kurdish majority, since the outbreak of unrest in Syria.

Meanwhile, there are reports of clashes between the Syrian army and foreign-backed insurgents in Aleppo, Dara’a, Hama and Idlib.

At least one gunman was killed in army shelling in Aleppo and many others were arrested after government troops stormed an insurgent compound in Zabadani in Damascus Province.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 and many people, including a large number of security personnel, have been killed in the violence.

Damascus has repeatedly said that the chaos in the country is being orchestrated from outside, and there are reports that a very large number of the armed groups fighting against the Syrian government are foreign nationals.

The anti-Syria Western countries, who are supporting armed groups in Syria, have called for the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad.

The United States has recently announced that it would allocate an additional $45 million to the insurgents fighting against the Syrian government.
