Iranian FM and Lakhdar Brahimi discuss Syria

(MNA) – The Iranian Foreign Minister, Ali Akbar Salehi, and the UN and Arab League envoy for Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, held a telephone conversation on Saturday on the developments in Syria.

Salehi said Iran is seeking a “Syrian-Syrian” solution to the 18-month conflict in Syria without foreign intervention.

The foreign minister reiterated Tehran’s position that Iran is ready to help Brahimi end the conflict in Syria.

Brahimi said Iran can play a positive role in Syria and said political solution is the only way to resolve crisis in the country and

One of the United Nations’ most experienced troubleshooters, Brahimi expressed hope that all warring sides cooperate in achieving peace.

Brahimi took over from Kofi Annan as the UN and Arab League envoy for Syria.

Annan announced his resignation in August after six months of trying to get the warring sides in Syria, and their outside backers, to find a negotiated settlement out of the crisis.
