(FNA)- A senior Iranian foreign ministry official said Iran, as the new Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) leader, is resolute to make the NAM an organization with a lot to say when dealing with the world crises.

Iran is determined to revive the realistic ideals of the NAM founders during its presidency and "turn the NAM into an organization that has plans and suggestions for international and regional crises and issues by establishing an active workgroup for every issue" to resolve global problems through cooperation and high potentials of its member states, said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian.

He asserted on Saturday that Tehran's hosting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit proved the futility of the US unilateral pressures aimed at isolating the Islamic Republic on an international level.

Amir Abdollahian said "This summit once again confirmed on an international level that the unilateral pressures imposed by the US with the aim of isolating the Islamic Republic are futile and that this issue was further substantiated by the presence of two-thirds of the United Nations member states in the NAM summit."

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs added that efforts by the Islamic Republic's enemies to promote Iranophobia in the region and the world had failed even before the summit was held.

The 16th heads-of-state summit of the NAM officially wrapped up work in Tehran on Friday night by issuing a final statement.

During the two-day meeting presided by President Ahmadinejad a number of 63 leaders of the NAM member states conveyed their opinions to their counterparts in the largest international grouping after the UN.

The NAM conference kicked off work here in the Iranian capital last Sunday. NAM's experts first discussed the agenda of the summit meeting on Sunday and Monday followed by the foreign ministers' meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday before the two-day heads-of-state summit which ended last night.
