Iran expresses regret over clashes in Tajikistan
(MNA) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Sunday expressed regret over the recent internal conflicts in Gorno-Badakhshan Province in Tajikistan which have resulted in death and injury of some country’s citizens.
“We hope the recent incidents in the Province of Badakhshan will end quickly with minimal human and financial losses, and security and peace persist,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said.
The clashes erupted after Major General Abdullo Nazarov, the security chief Gorno-Badakhshan province, was assassinated on July 21.
Following the incident Tajik President Emomali Rahmon had sent troops into the area on Tuesday in pursuit of former opposition field commander Ayombekov, accusing him of killing Nazarov.
