Iran has extended formal invitations to many senior officials of the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement for the 16th NAM summit in Tehran, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast says.

Speaking to IRNA on Monday, Mehmanparast expressed hope that the presence of high-ranking delegations of member states in the NAM summit would lead to effective steps towards resolving the ongoing international problems and crises.

He said the participation of high-ranking delegations could help NAM member states use the movement’s great potential to play a more active role in global developments.

The 16th NAM summit will be held from August 26 to 31 in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Iran will receive the rotating presidency of the movement from Egypt for three years during the Tehran summit.

NAM, comprised of some 120 member states and 17 observer countries, represents nearly two-thirds of the UN members.
