Iranian, Turkish Officials Discuss Bilateral Ties

(FNA)- Tehran's Ambassador to Turkey Bahman Hosseinpour and Head of Turkish National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee Volkan Bozkir conferred on the latest developments in the two neighboring countries' ties.


During the meeting, the Iranian diplomat lauded age-old relations between Iran and Turkey and underlined the need to strengthen the level of mutual cooperation.

The mutual trust between Tehran and Ankara has disappointed enemies and foiled their ill will towards the two neighboring states, Hosseinpour stated.

The Turkish official described Tehran-Ankara ties as profound and amicable, and expressed his satisfaction with the two sides' regular exchange of views regarding regional developments.

Earlier, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lauded the close ties between Iran and Turkey, and stated that the strong ties between Tehran and Ankara will serve the interests of the two neighboring countries and the region.

The issue was raised by President Ahmadinejad in a meeting with visiting Turkish Minister of Development Cevdet Yilmaz here in Tehran on Tuesday evening.

Ahmadinejad said the two countries should use opportunities to deepen their brotherly ties.

Iran and Turkey are determined to boost their trade exchanges to $30bln in the near future.

Iran and Turkey have in recent years increased their cooperation in all the various fields of economy, security, trade, education, energy and culture.

The two sides have exchanged several politico-economic delegations during the last few months.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Teyyip Erodgan paid a visit to Tehran on March 28 to discuss bilateral ties and cooperation in meetings with senior Iranian officials.

During his two-day visit, Erdogan conferred with senior Iranian officials on matters of mutual interest as well as regional and international developments.
