Annan arrives in Tehran for Syria talks
TEHRAN, April 10 (MNA) – Kofi Annan, the UN-Arab League joint special envoy on Syria, arrived in Tehran on Tuesday to hold talks with Iranian officials on the Syrian crisis.
Annan has put forward a six-point peace plan for ending the one-year crisis in Syria, which calls for a UN-supervised ceasefire by all parties, the withdrawal of soldiers and heavy weapons from cities, and the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, in a meeting with Faisal Meqdad, the Syrian president’s special envoy, on March 28, said that Tehran is ready to help implement Annan’s plan.
Annan and Salehi are scheduled to attend a joint press conference on Wednesday, April 11.
