PRESS TV - Iranian lawmaker Hossein Sobhaninia says a motion has been submitted to the Majlis Presiding Board to summon President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for questioning.

“Today the motion to question the president was submitted to the Presiding Board, and the board referred it to the specialized committees,” Sobhaninia said on Tuesday.

Sobhaninia added that the motion was signed by 79 Iranian lawmakers.

The member of Majlis Presiding Board said according to Article 88 of the Iranian Constitution, if a quarter of lawmakers (73) decide to question the president they must submit the motion to the Majlis Speaker and he must then refer the bid to specialized committees.

Sobhaninia said based on article 196 of the Majlis internal regulations, the president can send his representatives to specialized committees to respond to questions posed by lawmakers.

The Iranian lawmaker added that if none of the legislators withdraw their signature within one week, the Majlis Speaker is required to read and send the questions to the president.

The motion to question Ahmadinejad was originally submitted to the Majlis Presiding Board on June 27, 2011 and was signed by 100 Iranian lawmakers. However, it lost quorum after a number of lawmakers withdrew their signatures.

According to Article 88 of the Iranian Constitution, the president must appear before Majlis within a month of being summoned, unless lawmakers decide to withdraw the motion to question him.
