New Ploys against Iran

Yukia Amano’s latest report published by the media during the recent days follows the regular pattern of IAEA: a mixture of criticism and approval. Just as the era of ElBaradei, Iran's cooperation with the Agency have been praised, while ambiguities have been addressed too. At any rate, the report provides enough material for Western countries if they want to intensify international pressure on Iran.

Some observers believed that Arab Spring will marginalize Iran's nuclear program and send in to the bottom of Western countries’ agenda. But that will never happen. Iran's nuclear program may shrink in importance only if Western countries get occupied with a new urgent, quick-impact case such as the developments in Libya and Syria which were dealt with after a series of UN Security Council meetings which led to resolutions condemning systematic violation of human rights in both countries.

The French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s recent warning that Iran's nuclear program could provoke preemptive strike fits within the same puzzle. His comments indicate new plans against Iran and Syria being in the pipeline. Is West going to use force against these two countries, just as it did with Libya? Putting this besides Turkey’s agreeing to install NATO radar systems bespeaks of a coherent strategy to corner Iran. As usual, Saudi Arabia also plays its special role in undermining Iran. Now it’s all up to Iran to weather through the global and regional threats with a correct analysis of the situation.
