Tehran Times - The Iranian mission to the United Nations has said that Iran’s reelection to the UN Commission on Population and Development indicates the abhorrence of the dictatorial attitudes of certain major powers by the international community.

The Iranian mission made the remarks in a statement issued to express gratitude to the member states of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) which voted in favor of Iran’s membership.

The text of the statement was released on Sunday.

Iran was re-elected to the UN Commission on Population and Development by a majority vote on Thursday, despite the joint efforts of the United States and Canada to block the extension of Iran’s membership.

The opposition of the U.S. and Canada to Iran’s membership in the commission is indicative of their short-sightedness and the fact that their policies are at odds with the principles of democracy and tolerance, the statement read.

Iran’s reelection also revealed that the dictatorial policies, which certain major powers have adopted toward international issues, are repugnant to the international community, the statement said.

The Iranian mission also wrote that the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue its relentless efforts to help the realization of the goals pursued by the UN Commission on Population and Development, including the promotion of humanitarian values.

The mission added that Iran takes pride in its endeavors to help stymie certain countries which are seeking to manipulate the United Nations and its affiliated organizations.

In conclusion, the mission thanked the member states for the support they have provided to Iran and appreciated their trust.
