ISNA-Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said the US sanction on Venezuelan state oil company reflects the country's isolation.

He said, "the US resort to sanction on the Venezuelan company due to alleged link with Iran is repetition of Washington's failed policy."

"The US resort to force and outdated approaches including unilateral sanctions shows its isolation in the international community on one hand and its insult to will of other nations in selecting political and trade partners on the other hand," Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman added.

Mehmanparast also highlighted firm positions taken by Venezuelan officials against the US following the sanction and said, "the stances show that the US illegitimate and hegemonic measures will fail to overshadow will of independent and freedom-seeking nations."

"The independent identity of Latin America is a reality which domineering countries and particularly the US will have to accept and respect it, Latin America which enjoys the identity has been turned into an influential reality in international relations," he continued.

"Now the US policies are known for sanction and threat against independent states and support for dictatorial regimes and such policies show features of a declining power."

Washington imposed sanctions against Venezuelan PDVSA this week for alleged shipment of two tankers of a gasoline additive to Iran.

The measure came in a campaign to tighten sanctions on Iran over its peaceful nuclear program.

Under the sanctions, PDVSA is denied US government contracts and banned from Washington's export financing.

Venezuela's Energy Minister Rafael Ramirez, who is also the Head of PDVSA, said on May 25 that Venezuela would continue to keep ties with Iran and any other country it wishes.
