Iran supports plan to establish Asian union
Observer—Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi said on Monday Tehran supports the plan to establish the Asian Union in a bid to develop economic cooperation among the Asian nations.
Addressing a group of foreign diplomats, ambassadors and Chinese elites in Beijing, Salehi said that the Islamic Republic of Iran always supports the solidarity of the Asian states.
Referring to the historical, cultural and geopolitical situation of Asia, he added Iran is keen on establishing Asian union.
Salehi said that Asia emerges as major economic powerhouse and that there is economic power shift from west to east. ‘The time is ripe for Asia to undertake pivotal role in the international community.’ Salehi cautioned the western governments not to meddle in Libyan affairs and stop conspiracy against the Syrian legitimate government. ‘The Western governments have attempted to undermine national determination of the Arab states and mislead the Islamic awakening in the Middle East.’ Salehi said that the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that regional developments are considered as important and valuable achievements of the Islamic thoughts. Meanwhile, Iranian foreign minister held talks his Chinese Counterpart Yang Jiechi in Beijing. Salehi arrived in Beijing on Sunday evening to hold talks with high-ranking Chinese officials.
