Fatah-Hamas deal fruit of Egyptian revolution: Iran FM

Acting Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah movement and the Islamic resistance movement Hamas struck a deal on Wednesday to form an interim unity government and fix a date for general election. 

The deal, which took many officials by surprise because of profound Fatah-Hamas divisions over how to resolve generations of conflict with Israel, was thrashed out in Egypt and followed a series of secret meetings. 

It said the agreement would allow Egypt to invite all Palestinian factions to sign a national reconciliation agreement in Cairo in the next few days. 

On Thursday, Salehi stated that the agreement signed between Fatah and Hamas is a “positive” and “auspicious” step toward the realization of the goals of the oppressed people of Palestine. 

He also expressed appreciation for the efforts of the new Egyptian government in this regard. 

Salehi cited unity among the Palestinian groups, and resistance against the Israeli occupation forces as two important factors in restoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. 

He also expressed hope that the deal would help the Palestinians achieve great victories in their fight against the occupiers. 

In addition, the Iranian foreign minister expressed hope that the Rafah border crossing would be opened as a result of the unity agreement between Fatah and Hamas
