Saudi Arabia Seeks To Counterattack

The heads of state of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council are meeting in the Jeddah advisory conference to discuss what they call “Iran’s threats”. This measure is taken by Saudi Arabia and is considered as a counterattack. Following the agreement reached between Iran and the P5+1, Saudi Arabia realized that Iran had come out of its isolation and would expand its relations with the world. In fact, after intense negotiations between Iran and the world powers, Persian Gulf littoral states are concerned about their future relations. This factor increases Iran’s power compared with other elements of power. Therefore, Saudi Arabia intends to launch a counterattack in order to first align the Persian Gulf littoral states and then the Arab League and, in the end, the Islamic Cooperation Council with itself.

Saudi Arabia attempts to create a new atmosphere of Iranophobia in the region and gradually transfer it into the West so that an unbearable atmosphere against Iran is formed in the western countries. Saudi Arabia intends to deteriorate Iran’s economic power by threatening buyers of Iran’s oil and other products so that the opening of relations between Iran and other countries of the world would lead to a deadlock. Saudi Arabia believes that if it fails in its attempts at the international level, it will further its intentions at the regional level. The countries which are invited by Saudi Arabia have their own agenda and it is not clear whether they would follow suit.

The Persian Gulf Cooperation Council pursues the traditional example of power balance, thus, considers the economic and political power of the Islamic Republic of Iran as a threat against its own power. Therefore, they make great efforts to prevent, in any form possible, Iran from becoming a nuclear state. One of their measures is to limit and threaten Iran’s trade activities. Through political maneuvers, Saudi Arabia intends to feed the media in order to exert pressure on Iran and distance other countries from Iran. Countries which start dialogue with Iran soon realize that such Saudi measures are only taken due to its hostility towards Iran. Iran must think about the strengthening of its relations with other countries. At the present time, although Saudi Arabia spends huge amounts of its oil dollars in this regard, the world will not succumb to illogical statements which are made by a country which is the center of Wahhabism, terrorism, enmity and hatred.
