Iranian Navy unveils new defense achievements

The Iranian Navy has unveiled new domestic achievements in another display of the country’s naval defense capabilities.

The military achievements, which were unveiled on Monday in the presence of Deputy Army Commander Brigadier General Abdul-Rahim Mousavi, included a Submarine Escape Training Simulator (SETS), the networking of operation region radars, the Mark 46 torpedo engine test system as well as an electronic system for the display of maps and management of information.

In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

In October, Iran launched the mass production line for a smart and high-speed torpedo, dubbed Valfajr, which is capable of completely destroying various marine targets, including large vessels.

The Iranian Navy launched its first domestically-built destroyer, Jamaran, in the Persian Gulf in February 2010. The 1,420-ton destroyer is equipped with modern radar systems and other electronic warfare capabilities. It also features highly advanced anti-aircraft, anti-surface and anti-subsurface systems.

In March, another domestically-made destroyer, Damavand, officially joined the Navy’s fleet in the Caspian Sea north of the country. The state-of-the-art destroyer is equipped with modern radar, electronic and reconnaissance systems.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other nations, particularly its neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
