Iranian President Stresses Further Expansion of Ties with Greece

(FNA)- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underscored the necessity for the further reinvigoration of relations with Greece in all fields.

In a message on Wednesday, Rouhani felicitated Greece's new Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on winning the Greek general election.

He also expressed the hope that Tehran-Athens bilateral, regional and international relations and cooperation would further bolster and develop.

"I would like to congratulate you on the appointment as the new country's premier," Rouhani said in the message.

Thanks to political will of both sides' officials, it is expected to witness expansion of all-out relations and cooperation at the bilateral, regional and international level between Iran and Greece, Rouhani said in the message.

President Rouhani also whished for success of the new Greek premier and prosperity of the Greek nation.

Greece is neighbor with Turkey which is located west of Iran and imports part of its oil and gas from Iran. Existence of infrastructures facilitates extension of Iran-Turkey gas pipeline to the European country in case of reaching an agreement on the issue.

In November 2013, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi called for boosting energy ties with Greece.

“Iran as a supplier of energy to the Europe, specially in the field of oil and gas, is ready to expand ties with Greece,” Takht Ravanchi said in a meeting with Greek Foreign Ministry’s Director General for Political Affairs Parasekeh Dimitrius Violus in Tehran.

The Greek diplomat, for his part, said that Greece as a country having age-old relations with Iran is willing to enhance ties with Tehran.
