UN Asks Implementation of Iran’s Syria Plan

(Tasnim) – The United Nation’s deputy envoy to Syria described Iran’s four-article plan to resolve the crisis in Syria as considerable and called for the implementation of its first step, a ceasefire in the city of Aleppo.

In a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian here in Tehran, Ramzi Ezzeddine discussed the UN Syria Envoy Staffan de Mistura’s plan for a ceasefire in Aleppo.

Ezzeddine briefed Amir Abdollahian on the results of the consultations with the Syrian government, the militants, and key regional and international players, and asked for Iran’s support for the plan to establish a ceasefire in Aleppo.

De Mistura’s deputy referred to Syrian officials’ positive response to the plan, and expressed the hope that the ceasefire in Aleppo could be implemented as soon as possible.

Amir Abdollahian, for his part, praised the determination of de Mistura and his team to resolve the Syrian crisis, and emphasized the necessity for a "realistic view" on the developments in this country.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs also criticized the US and its regional allies for arming and training the so-called moderate militants, and said  arming militants is in contradiction to the UN ceasefire plan.
