Iran, Russia to increase cooperation in drug fight

In a meeting on Friday Iranian ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanai and director of the Federal Narcotics Service of Russia Viktor Petrovich Ivanov discussed ways to increase cooperation in the campaign against drug trafficking.

Ivanov referred to the constant contacts between the two countries’ presidents and voiced hope that bilateral cooperation would be enhanced with regard to the will of both countries’ leaders.

He pointed to the cooperation between Iran and Russia in the campaign against drug trafficking in the region and the world at large and said the Kremlin is willing to promote bilateral cooperation in this respect.

He said that his country is making efforts to hold a ministerial meeting on the campaign against illegal drug trafficking and expressed hope that Iran would participate in the conference actively.

The meeting will be held on May 15.

Sanai, for his part, pointed to the problems that Iran faces due to the production of narcotics in Afghanistan.

He went on to say that collective efforts should be made to reduce the production of narcotics.

Ambassador Sanai also said it is necessary to attract other countries’ attention to join the campaign against drug trafficking.
