Daily Life in Kabul

The pictures below show the daily lives of people in Kabul. The daily lives of people who, since a decade ago, have gotten rid of the Taliban regime through the presence of foreign forces, but who have not yet tasted independence. The Afghan economy is still in shock and many people make their living by working in stores that sell the belongings of American forces. Contrary to what it might seem from the outside, the people’s view of the US attack against this country is not 100 percent negative. Many believe that the presence of foreign soldiers has ended the Taliban regime and, if the Taliban had remained in power, the country would have been turned into a certain hell. The radicalism of the Taliban still continues in Afghanistan and it seems that, with the explosion of every bomb, the nightmare of the dark days of the Taliban’s presence is revived. Nonetheless, the 13-year presence of foreign forces in Afghanistan has not helped the fragile economy of this country. The high percentage of administrative corruption in this country has forced people to migrate and accept hard labor outside the borders of the country. Luxury stores which have been built in recent years in some posh neighborhoods of the capital are used mostly for window-shopping than as a place to shop for the residents of this city. Many people in Afghanistan hope that, with the upcoming presidential election in this country, their economic situation will improve.
